Sunday April 13 Grace Bible Church Rugby was blessed with the appointment of 2 additional elders and 2 deacons. We are so thankful for the Lord’s gift of shepherds to protect the flock of God and for deacons who faithfully serve.
Mc 3.jpg
Currently GBCR meets for worship each Sunday in a high school located in a new housing development, and the residents are becoming more aware that a Bible teaching church gathers there. The Thursday before Easter, several GBCR members went door to door distributing gospel invitations for our Easter service and meal. What a joy it was to welcome visitors Easter Sunday and to share with them the good news of the resurrection of Jesus Christ!
Mc 4.jpg
April 1 was the final lesson of FOF, and both Joy and Julia completed the class. We are so thankful for Michael and Cyner who faithfully co-taught the class.
Mc 5.jpg
April 26-28 we were blessed to have Charles, Debby, and Maggie Clayton visit us for the weekend. We first met the Claytons while visiting their church, Grace Bible Church of Bakersfield, in May 2023, when they graciously hosted our family for several days. It was a delight to have them stay with us in Rugby and to attend GBCR.
Mc 6.jpg
Claudio, Nikki, and children are planning to return to their Madeira church planting ministry in August. We thank the Lord for their willingness to serve at GBCR these past 9 months, and they have been a tremendous blessing and help. We will miss them greatly but are glad they are able to return to Madeira and continue sharing the gospel.

GBCR elders are looking to The Master's Seminary to hire either a full-time, married, Pastor or a full-time, Single, Preaching Pastoral Intern.

We would really appreciate your prayers for wisdom and God’s provision of the right man for this important preaching and pastoral care role at Grace Bible Church Rugby.

What a blessing it was to celebrate Joy Grace turning 17 on April 11. We are so thankful to the Lord for giving her to our family.
Mc 9.jpg
April 11 Tom met online with Dr. Street and Dr. Palmer for his oral defense, and we are thankful to announce that he passed! We praise the Lord for providing the opportunity these past 2 years to learn from these godly men and to develop more tools for serving the Lord and caring for His people.

May 9 three McConnells will graduate from Masters University. Jasmin, married to Joshua, will graduate with a teaching degree. Josiah, our second son, will graduate with a degree in accounting and entrepreneurship. And Tom will be graduating with his doctorate in Biblical Counselling. Praise the Lord for enabling each one to finish the course.

The Lord provides housing for the McConnells
So many of you have been praying for the Lord to provide a more permanent place for our family to live. By God’s grace He has answered your prayers, and on October 14 we received the keys for a long-term rental in Rugby! We have been moving our belongings from storage, and tomorrow, November 2, members of our church will help us shift the final items. Thank you for your prayers for us in this important matter. We are so thankful to be getting settled and to have a home for serving God, our family, and His people

The Lord blesses the GTY Europe Conference in Moldova
Oct. 24-29 Tom traveled to Moldova where he was one of the speakers at the GTY Europe conference. Paul Mitchell, the director of GTY Europe, arranged for the MacArthur Study Bible to be translated into Romanian. To celebrate its completion, several conferences were held in Romania and Moldova during the month of October. Tom was so thankful to participate in the Moldova conference and help distribute free Romanian MacArthur Study Bibles to those in attendance. It was such an honor and privilege to preach alongside these godly men. We are thankful for the opportunity to encourage believers in Moldova
one of the poorest countries in Europe, and to partner with GTY Europe in this historic event.

The Lord continues to strengthen His Church
Thank you for your ongoing prayers for Grace Bible Church Rugby. As you recall, Pastor Claudio, our church planting elder in Madeira, along with his wife Nikki and children, has returned to Rugby to preach and strengthen the church as we prayerfully look for a new occupational elder. By God’s grace the church is doing well, and in a few weeks, we will celebrate 2 baptisms and 6 people coming into membership.
Please pray for Tom and Claudio as they seek the Lord’s will and provision of an occupational elder for GBCR and as they seek to identify, train, and appoint lay elders from within the church body.

Family Update
Amid moving house and ministering in Moldova, the Lord continues to help Tom in serving GBCR, discipling men, counseling, and doing his doctoral studies.  Kathy has been asked to teach in the Women of Grace ministry, and they are doing a monthly study on pride and humility. Joy and Julia are working diligently in homeschool/dual enrollment studies and are extremely thankful to have a place to live and even new beds.
Josiah and Jonathan are enjoying being roommates at TMU and keeping each other accountable in their walk with Christ. Joshua and Jasmin are a great husband and wife team serving the Lord together at GCC. We are so thankful for each one of them and for the steadfast love of the LORD which endures to all generations.

 September 2024  Dear Ministry Partners,

God is so faithful to His children! What a blessing that we can call Him our Father and be part of His family! We are so thankful for you, our brothers and sisters in Christ, who intercede to the Father on our behalf and sacrificially give so His name can be proclaimed in Rugby, England.

You are dear to us.
 Tom and Kathy McConnell
(And please let us know how we can pray for you!)

In July our family was able to participate in the GMI conference in Turkey. What a blessing it was to visit the biblical sites and to fellowship with other international Christian workers.   July 22-25 there was a gathering of the TMS UK affiliated families for the purpose of fellowship and spiritual encouragement. A highlight for us was the great teaching by GCC elder Luis Contreras, currently of Mexico City. Each session he walked us through a chapter from 1 Samuel (23-27), sharing lessons from the life of David. We are so grateful for Luis and Robin’s willingness to travel to the UK and minister to God’s servants across the pond. A Quick Trip to Northern Ireland In late July-early August our family took a quick trip to Northern Ireland where we were able to visit longtime friends, Pastor George and Heather Morrow, and several dear families from Sion Mills Baptist Church, the first church Tom pastored in the UK 21 years ago!    | In God’s providence, Kathy was able to meet and enjoy fellowship and prayer with Frances while at GCC. She has been a faithful prayer warrior for our family, and numerous missionaries, for many years. We are so thankful for Frances and for all those who intercede for the Lord’s work.     Jennifer is another dear saint who has been a friend to our family the past 16 years. The Lord has used her to encourage many ladies to study His Word. She faithfully attends and serves at GraceLife London. Recently she was able to get away for a few days and renew fellowship with us in Rugby.    A Week Devoted to Prayer GBCR is beginning its new church year with a week devoted to prayer. We will gather throughout this week (2nd-7th of Sept) praying specifically for various ministries of the church.

Pastor Adam Waller from GraceLife London was our guest speaker for the launch of the new church year and the Week of Prayer. What an encouragement it was to be instructed by his timely exposition of Matthew 6 and the Lord’s Prayer. We are so thankful for Adam and Dana and their willingness to travel to Rugby and renew fellowship with the saints at GBCR.  Grace Bible Academy ‱ September Launch! Two classes are being offered for the ongoing training of the church. Two brothers will be teaching a course in Evangelism. Two other men will be teaching Fundamentals of the Faith.

Praise the Lord that men are being given the opportunity to lead classes in GBA, minister to the church, and have their teaching gifts evaluated and honed for future usefulness to the Lord.    The Farinhas Return Temporarily to help Shepherd GBCR
Claudio Farinha, his wife Nikki, and their three children have returned to Rugby on a temporary basis so that Pastor Claudio can help provide preaching and pastoral care.

The Lord has graciously, and quickly, provided temporary accommodations for them in Rugby. They are retaining their rental home in Madeira for their future return.

Nikki is eager to serve in Women of Grace while they are at GBCR. They view this as a helpful opportunity for her to gain experience in ministering to women, which will be beneficial for their future church planting work in Madeira.

Pastor Claudio will begin preaching through the Gospel of John from the second Sunday in September. We are so thankful for Claudio and Nikki’s willingness and sacrifice to return and serve the Lord and GBCR at this important time in the life of the church.  Another McConnell Arrow Launched for the Glory of God The McConnell family said a tearful goodbye to our son Jonathan as we launched another arrow from our home (Psalm 127:4-5). August 13-20 Kathy travelled with Jonathan to California to help get him settled at The Master’s University where he is pursuing a degree in Cinema and Digital Arts. The Lord has graciously provided work for him on campus, and Jonathan is praying that he would make godly friends and continue honoring the Lord in all things.

While in Los Angeles it was such a blessing for Kathy to spend time with our other “California kids.” Josiah, 20, is a senior at TMU and hopes to graduate in May 2025 with his accounting degree. Joshua and Jasmin continue serving the Lord faithfully at Grace Community Church and in their academic studies.  Julia’s 14th Birthday August 1 was Julia’s 14th birthday. What a joy she is to our family! Special thanks to our friend and Northern Ireland hostess Heather Morrow for the delicious homemade birthday cake.

  June 2024 Update:

Dear Ministry Partners,

June was our first ever Missions Month, and it was such a blessing  for GBCR to hear how God is saving His people and building His church in other parts of the world. What an encouragement it continues to be to the congregation!

Amid the excitement of Missions Month, we experienced the sadness of GBCR’s occupational elder suddenly and unexpectedly resigning.

The church has been called to prayer, and by God’s grace it continues to be unified. Please pray for our remaining elders (Cláudio Farinha and Tom) as they seek God’s wisdom and godly counsel for helping the church move forward through this unforeseen providence.

We are so grateful for the vital ministry of prayer that you continue to perform on behalf of our family and the Lord’s work here in Rugby, England.

Tom and Kathy McConnell      We were privileged to have John and Meg Glass with us the first weekend of Missions Month as they shared with GBCR their 30+ years of experience of Gospel witness and church planting in France and Switzerland. John’s testimony and preaching were used by God to encourage and inspire the congregation in personal evangelism. Weeks later our church is still repeating and applying John’s exhortation that all it takes is “1 Verse, 5 Minutes, and a Little Courage.” We never know how the Lord might use the shared Word in the hearts of those who hear it.   |  |     From May 31st - June 11th, the 7-member team from Grace Community Church in Maryville, TN, sacrificed their time, money, and energy to partner with GBCR in sharing the gospel. The team and various members of GBCR spent 3 days doing door-to-door evangelism, handing out gospel tracts, inviting people to a special Sunday service, and having gospel conversations with any who would give us opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ.   |  |   Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings Pastor Chris Riser of GCC Maryville, TN, taught GBCR’s men on spiritual leadership in the church. Tuesday and Saturday evenings were teaching times for the women. Rachel O’Dell, Yvonne Hanson, and Michele Platt ministered to our ladies through teaching, music, testimonies, and sweet gifts. We learned about hope from Romans 5:1-5 and the importance of our thinking from 2 Cor. 10:3-5.   |    On Sunday, 9 June, during the first hour, Rob Rathbun shared with our congregation what God is doing at Grace Community Church in Maryville, TN through faithful Bible preaching, evangelism, missions, and church planting. Pastor Chris Riser faithfully preached God's Word to us during our main worship service. All the men contributed to our corporate Q&A following the International Lunch.   |  |   |  |   Pastor Jairo Lopes from Miratejo Baptist Church, Miratejo, Portugal, is a key ministry partner with GBCR’s church planting efforts in Madeira, and he was our missionary guest on Sunday, 16 June. Their church in Portugal has strong links with Berea Seminary in Leon, Spain.       GBCR was so happy to welcome home its very own missionary family, ClĂĄudio and Nikki Farinha for our fourth week of Missions Month. ClĂĄudio brought a timely message from God’s Word, and their family had many enjoyable opportunities to catch up with members of the church. We are so thankful for their faithful gospel labors on the Island of Madeira and pray the Lord would continue to bless the gospel seed sown there.   |  |  The final Sunday of Missions Month, Alex RappĂ©, GBCR member and missionary partner with the Farinha family on Madeira, was our guest speaker. He brought an excellent message entitled God’s Thorough Reconciliation from 2 Cor 5:18-21. Alex has been an encouragement to GBCR and will be preaching for us again before he returns to Madeira.      Missions Month concluded with a special time of prayer for each of these missionaries and for our church. May God continue to use this special emphasis of evangelism and church planting to challenge GBCR as it makes Christ known in Rugby and beyond!   |  |   |

 | Dear Praying Friends,

What a privilege it is to serve the Lord! By God’s grace and through the prayers and sacrifice of you, His people, He has allowed us to have a small part in making His name great among the nations for 21 years. Thank you for your faithful support all these years. What an honor it is to partner with you in the Gospel ministry.

Much love in Christ,
Tom and Kathy McConnell

Missions Month Header.png
 | June is the first ever mission’s month at Grace Bible Church Rugby! Each Sunday GBCR will have a special speaker to emphasize church planting and the Great Commission. The guest speakers will be John Glass (Switzerland), Chris Riser and a STM Team (Maryville, TN), Jairo Lopes (Portugal), ClĂĄudio Farinha (Madeira), and Alex RappĂ© (Madeira).
Missions Month Calendar.png
 | Although we are an 11-year-old church plant, still praying for a building of our own, it is important for GBCR to be burdened for the lost around the world. Perhaps the Lord will raise up individuals from our church to serve Him in other places. Please pray that the Lord would use mission’s month in the lives of His people at GBCR.

 | In May Tom made a quick 2 œ week trip back to the states for ministry and educational purposes. By God’s grace he was able to complete another semester of doctoral studies in Biblical Counseling at The Master’s University. He was privileged to attend the in-person lectures at The Master’s University and be instructed by Dr. John Street and Dr. Keith Palmer. Lord willing, Tom will graduate in May 2025.
Masters Pic.jpg
 | On his way to TMU, Tom made a quick stop in New Jersey where he preached at a supporting church, Faith Family Fellowship, the very place where Tom first heard the gospel when he was just 6 years old. We praise the Lord for this faithful church who reached out to “bus kids” in the 1970’s.
Tom Preaching.jpg

Tom also met with Pastors Jack McDonald (TMS grad) and Chris Raike from Grace Bible Church in Allenwood, NJ. We are grateful for this church which is a strong gospel light in Tom’s home state.

We are especially thankful that Tom was able to spend a few days in New Jersey with his much-loved mother, Harmony. Please pray that the Lord would soften her heart to the gospel and give her saving faith.

|
While Tom was in California for his doctoral studies he enjoyed seeing our children (Joshua, Jasmin, and Josiah). Joshua completed the 1st year of his M.Div training at The Master's Seminary and is working as an intern in the children's ministry at Grace Community Church. Jasmin is working at Grace Academy and will finish her teaching degree at TMU in December. Josiah, who just turned 20, is entering his senior year as a business major and will be serving as a Resident Assistant at TMU in the Autumn.
